Summer is full of flora and fauna everywhere, and in Kyoto you can’t miss out on Higashihonganji Temple’s lotuses! Lotus is one of Asia’s beloved blossoms as it is not only lovely to look at, it is also an important food source because it’s roots, leaves and stems are all edible and nutritious. If you are lucky you might also catch a glimpse of sōtōren (two-headed lotus), a rare breed of lotuses during full bloom period.
There is nothing more tranquil than watching lotuses sway with the wind as time seems to stay still… Higashihonganji Temple is within a few minutes on foot from Kyoto station, so it’s easy to find your inner peace within the bustling Kyoto city.
