Our previous post on shrine wedding procedures in Kamigamo Shrine garnered a lot of raves, and so we are happy to present to you an actual wedding from said shrine!
The spotlight is on a beautiful mixed-race couple, made up of Annie, the lovely Shanghainese bride, and Neil, the prim-and-proper British groom. Most of their guests are a mix of people from all over the world as well; from Australia, Polish and China, just to name a few.
We take our hats off to Neil, who diligently practised the ceremony speech countless times before the event and recited the thing whole– a custom staple to shrine weddings that require grooms to recite an ancient script, which is kind of like a vow, to the gods – a feat not easily achieved by non-Japanese. It was simply splendid!
Now it’s time for photos!
